Born in Louisville, KY.  Lives and works in San Diego, CA.

Erin Dace Behling is a designer, furniture maker and educator based in San Diego, CA.  She received her BFA from Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana University and traveled to the west coast to study under Wendy Maruyama and Matthew Hebert to receive an MFA from San Diego State University.  Both degrees were emphasized in furniture design and woodworking.

Erin currently teaches woodworking and furniture design at community colleges in the greater San Diego area, including Southwestern College and MiraCosta College and has previously taught courses at San Diego State University.  During the summers she spends her days educating 1st – 4th graders in woodworking at Gateways Summer School. 

In her own work, Erin explores various mediums such as wood, fiberglass, plastic, concrete, foam, asphalt shingles, carpet and fibers, while striving to arrange a setting where they are able to cohesively exist.  She enjoys working with mundane materials in order to present the familiar in unfamiliar ways, soliciting the viewers to reconsider the role of objects and materials within their environment and to see the banal presented otherwise.

Erin has shown work at several galleries in Southern California including Lois Lambert Gallery of Functional Art, The La Jolla Athenaeum, Alexander Salazaar White Box Contemporary, William D. Cannon Art Gallery and SD Contemporary Art Fair.  Her work was recently displayed in an exhibit, Fearless Furniture at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis, IN.
